Disney World, Part II

So, where were we? Ah, yes, our trip to Orlando, the sequel. We last left off at Epcot, which was actually more fun for the kids than we thought it would be. The following day we visited Sea World, which was more fun for the adults than we anticipated. They actually had the best rollercoaster there that we experienced in all of Orlando, the Kraken.

But of course, the main events were the ocean critters. We saw the dolphin show first, and Jenny snapped an unbelievable photo of the dolphins in midair.

We all got to touch a whole flock (school? herd?) of stingrays. Madeleine even got brave enough to stick her hand in.

We enjoyed the ever-popular sea lion and walrus show as well. The best part of this show, though, was the mime usher that “helped” people into the stadium while not-so-inconspicuously mocking his unsuspecting victims.

Madeleine actually rode her first rollercoaster with me at Sea World in their huge kids area, and she was duly freaked out by it. But she was a trooper and didn’t cry or anything. She enjoyed the teacup-style “Swishy Fishy” ride more than anything there.

And, of course, we had to see Shamu. It was probably the least favorite of all the shows we saw, though. It tried way too hard to convince you of the magical, spiritual bond between humans and the ocean, while all we wanted was just to get splashed by a killer whale. We were disappointed, and came away dry.

By the end of the day, we had done theme parks for three straight days, and we were really ready for a day off. Luckily, the next day was Sunday, so we were able to sleep in, relax a bit, and enjoy the first session of General Conference via the Internet. It was nice to relax and hear from the prophet, and we were grateful for the wonders of technology that let us listen to conference thousands of miles away in our little hotel rooms. Later in the day we took a drive out to Cocoa Beach and stuck our toes in the Atlantic Ocean. The weather wasn’t that great, but the rain only came down for the first few minutes that we were there. I think we actually got our best pictures of the whole trip here. I’ll let you decide.

This last picture is what happens when you turn your back on a one-year-old, only to turn around and realize that she’s just swallowed at least three handfuls of sand and seaweed. Judging from her expression, though, it seems like it was pretty tasty!

On our last day we went to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, and thankfully it was only open for a handful of hours. We were too tired at this point to really enjoy everything to it’s fullest. However, Madeleine did enjoy the river raft ride.

The second is a better picture of Madeleine on the ride, except someone is poking her eye out. She was just barely tall enough to go on this big kids’ ride, and she loved getting soaked. Thankfully we brought an extra change of clothes for her, because she got drenched. Jenny wasn’t so lucky as to have extra clothes, so she walked around wet all day, which was nice for her because it was deathly hot. The heat, though, contributed to the feeling that we were on the plains of Africa, which made these pictures feel more realistic during our mock safari.

But like I said, we were pretty pooped by the end of the day, and the oppressive humidity finally brought a thunderstorm. We were definitely ready to be done with our vacation, and I think this next picture shows it pretty well.

At least Jenny’s happy here, but both Tori and Madeleine are trying to make breaks for it. I think Tori’s actually playing dead and hoping we’ll stop dragging her to take pictures with strangers in costumes. I mean, even Goofy doesn’t look excited to be here.

Anyway, photographic evidence to the contrary, we did really enjoy ourselves, although I think we’ll wait several years before we do Disney again. At least until the girls can really appreciate the experience; I think they were still a little too young to really fully enjoy themselves. A special thanks, though, to the Goodmans for putting this together, helping out with airfare, and watching our girls while Jenny and I did the more adult rides. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Happy Birthday Tori!!

Okay, so I'm going to take a quick break from our fun in Orlando to wish Tori a Happy Birthday!! Yep, that's right, our little baby turned one on Friday 10/10. I can't believe it! And it's about time we've posted about it.

Madeleine and I spent all day singing Happy Birthday to Tori. Madeleine even helped me make her cupcakes and wrap the presents. So although Tori had no idea what was going on, we were excited and having fun.

We had a little party with our families and here are the highlights.

Balloons...need I say more. Sorry about the picture, but even with the fuzziness it captured the fun.

The cupcake cake. Can you tell what it is? It's a pumpkin, of course. And no, the little one is not an orange cherry no matter how much it looks like it. That was Tori's very own pumpkin cake.

She wasn't very interested in the gifts, of course, but her sister and cousin sure enjoyed opening and playing with them.

Tori was very excited to eat her cake, but once it was placed in front of her she wasn't sure how to eat it. The frosting was just too sticky. So after picking at it for a little while, she finally decided to dive in head first. Yummy!

We are sure glad Tori's part of our family. She loves to make us laugh with her antics, loves hugs and kisses, loves music and dancing, and loves her big sister although she is often pushing her buttons as only little sisters know how.

Happy Birthday Tori!

Disney World-Part I

A week ago, we got home from a fantastic family vacation to Orlando, Florida. It was filled with airplane rides, roller coasters, animals, family, water, and fun, fun, fun. We went with my entire family to celebrate having everyone together for a few months between missions. My brother Taylor got home from his mission to the Philippines this summer and Jordan will receive his call in just a few weeks. The trip started with the girls' first airplane ride. Using frequent flier miles, Madeleine and Matt left first at 11:59 pm with many of the other Goodman clan. Tori and I left the next morning. Madeleine was ecstatic about flying. Here she is looking at our plane with her Uncle Jordan. She was glued to that window for at least an hour explaining every detail about her plane. Because of her vantage point, she was convinced that the plane only had one wing. Funny girl. She loved being on the plane and would probably tell you that was her favorite part of vacation. Although she loved it, she only got a few hours of sleep that night. So, our fun began with a tired Madeleine which continued throughout out time in Orlando.

We started off at Disney's MGM studios. Much like Universal Studios in CA, but better. We enjoyed some great rides and awesome stunt shows including an Indiana Jones stunt show and a car stunt show. Both incredible. And those stunt drivers are insane! So many accidents waiting to happen.

There was a highly energetic Block Party with Toy Story and Monster's Inc. characters. There were a ton of people dancing and doing tricks on trampolines and stilts and of course lip-syncing. Where they get so many crazy, spunky, perma-smile faced people we don't know. Oh, and how awesome is that life-size Mr. Potato Head. We danced with Woody...

and Little Bo Peep.

We also went on the new Toy Story ride where you shoot virtual rings, eggs, darts, etc. at carnival type games and it keeps track of your point totals. So fun! Can you tell who is excited? I don't think it's the kids. But it might be that handsome guy in the 3-D shades. Madeleine did have fun...I think. She was so exhausted!

The girls also loved playing in the Chinese theater they have there. Yep, that's George Burns' signature they are playing on.

The next day we went to Epcot and it was probably one of my favorite days of vacation. We rode some fun rides (including one that caused me to lose my breakfast), played with fun innovations and played in the water fountains (think Gateway Mall). There was also a Nemo ride which the girls loved, and an aquarium with dolphins, sea turtles, sharks, and so may fun fish including Nemo, Dori and the gang. We were lucky enough to stumble upon Mickey scuba diving in one of the tanks. Madeleine got to give him a kiss through the glass and he reacted as if he were smitten. So cute.

We also went to the interactive "Turtle Talk with Crush" from Finding Nemo. It was a wall with an animated ocean and animated Crush who interacted with the audience and answered questions. He picked on Madeleine (the girl with the blue shell) for a question and she asked, "I like fruit smacks!" Ya, he was a little confused by that question and it caused Madeleine to clam up. But with a little help we asked what he like to snack on. The answer, Jelly Fish. It was so fun!

A bunch of us got to ride a Segway. Those things are awesome. I can't wait to be rich enough some day to own one.

We spotted Mickey Mouse again,

Mexican Donald Duck,

And the "squirrels" or Chip and Dale as we all know them.

We also enjoyed entertainment by an American Band or as Madeleine calls them Pirates!
So much fun and we've only begun!! Well, I'll stop there and let you digest that. We would hate to overload you on all our good times.
